It's been a long, cold and rainy winter here in Galicia. Not at all the photographic conditions I thrive in and there has been a dip in my creativity. The last few weeks have presented some relief with warmth and sunshine hinting at the arrival of spring. The natural thing to do then is get out and make some photographs.
Trying to break free of from a creative slumber isn't always easy and I find one thing that helps me on my way is to try to learn something new. My photographic world centers around Black and White images where I can give attention to design elements, texture and tone. The natural Galician landscape, as beautiful as it is, presents some real challenges to my resting aesthetic.
But here is where I find the opportunity to learn something new by trying to break out of my comfort zone and attempt not only some landscape images but color ones.
Will I be switching to color photography now? I don't think so but having a goal to learn something new is getting me out photographing and exploring. Just the ticket to break free from the monotony of winter and start making more photographs.
